History

Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. was originally founded in 1946 by Sam Cooper & his brother. The company's first product line included boiler expansion tanks & liquid fuel storage tanks for use in residential & commercial sites throughout the greater metropolitan New York City area.

In the late 1950's Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. pioneered the manufacturing of containers to satisfy the growing needs of the sanitation industry and the haulage of construction & demolition debris within the city. In 1960 a separate division was established to cater for the specific needs of this market, specializing in the design, engineering and manufacture of equipment for industrial & residential waste removal. The current range of products includes a wide variety of front & rear loading containers, roll-off containers, recycling & compaction containers and compaction equipment.

Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. still occupies the same site in Brooklyn, New York where it started in 1946 and continues to set industry standards for quality and durability, having established itself as a leading force in the container manufacturing industry.

In 1986 Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. established a construction & demolition transfer station on another site close by, in Brooklyn. This business has grown and developed into a respected organization that provides a vital service for the waste handling & recycling industry in New York City. Processing over 1,000 tons per day of construction & demolition debris, the operation recycles around 80% of the material to beneficial end uses, with the balance being transported to landfills.

Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. also operates two steel trading divisions that offer a wide variety of structural & plate steel from imported & domestic sources. These businesses are based in Virginia & New Jersey.

Cooper Tank & Welding Corp. employs approximately 120 people, around 100 of whom live in local Brooklyn neighborhoods. The company is very conscious of its responsibilities towards the community and it strives operate its activities in an efficient, competent & caring manner. The company is still privately owned.
